Marcela is an internationally qualified lawyer admitted in Australia and Colombia. She began her legal career in Colombia, practising across both private and public sectors before relocating to Australia to re-qualify in law and continue her professional journey.
In Colombia, she founded and managed her own legal practice, advising on commercial and administrative matters, including agency, franchise, licence and joint venture agreements, consumer protection compliance, and intellectual property applications. She also served at the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce in Bogotá, drafting decisions and appeals relating to patents and industrial designs, and advising on trademark and patent procedures. In Australia, she has worked in intellectual property and commercial matters, supporting clients through legal research, document drafting, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder liaison.
Marcela’s international experience extends beyond practice. She was awarded a DAAD Scholarship to undertake research at RWTH Aachen University in Germany through the interdisciplinary “Law & Technology” program. During this time, she authored a comparative article examining the European and Andean patent systems and their relevance to the transfer of environmentally sound technologies.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Marcela combines international experience with strong analytical skills to provide commercially focused legal support.
