The Australia Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) has a logo which gives charities a ‘Tick of Charity Registration’ to show the public that charities are registered with the ACNC. The Tick was developed in 2016, coinciding with the release of the 2015 Australian Charities report with figures showing that thousands of Australian charities had been deregistered for failing to meet minimum standards.
The ACNC encourages charities to use the Tick where possible, so that donors can easily confirm the charity is registered with the ACNC. Former ACNC commissioner Susan Pascoe said the tick was developed to be a ‘visible badge of credibility’ indicating an organisation is registered with the ACNC and has met financial reporting and governance standards. Charities can use the Tick on their website, signs, letters, brochures and more.
The Tick gives reassurance to the public that registered charities are transparent and accountable and provides an incentive for charities to improve administration standards by highlighting their presence on the ACNC Charity register.
The Charity Tick aims to have a positive effect on public trust and confidence in the charity sector and encourages member of the public to check the Register to find out more details about charities they wish to support.
